This month aims to raise awareness around the many types of blood cancer, including leukemia and lymphoma, affecting people around the world.
Summary: First launched in 2010, Blood Cancer Awareness Month aims to raise awareness around the many types of blood cancer affecting people around the world. There are many blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and according to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, there are 1.5 million people living with or in remission from blood cancers in the United States.
Buildings, bridges, homes and other areas are lit in red as part of their “Light it Red” awareness campaign during Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
What to do: There is no traditional greeting for Blood Cancer Awareness Month. Observers are encouraged to wear the color red and share photos on social media with the hashtag #LightItRed. September is also a good time to start fundraisers through one-time events like bake sales and happy hour events.
