This day encourages you to get to know your neighbors.
Summary: This day encourages you to get to know your neighbors. Originating in the 1970s by Becky Mattson, a realtor from Lakeside, Montana, National Good Neighbor Day was recognized by then-President Jimmy Carter in 1978 with a presidential proclamation. Since then, it has been recognized by various resolutions of Congress in the intervening years. In 2003, the holiday moved from the fourth Sunday of September to September 28.
What to say: There is no traditional greeting for National Good Neighbor Day. People are encouraged to greet (and meet) their neighbors and nurture neighbor relationships all year long.
